Roy Shelton

Mr. Roy W. Shelton, of Bessemer, AL, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at the age of 81. He was a member of New Home Baptist Church in Pisgah, and also attended Parkwood Church of God, where he coached the men's and women's softball teams for many years. After retiring from US Steel, he and his wife enjoyed traveling in their RV with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by parents, Harvey and Hettie Shelton, brothers, Homer Shelton, and Bill Shelton, and sisters, Rubye Glover, Pearl White and Ann Yarbrough.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marie Shelton, son, Ronald Dodson, daughters, Donna Franklin (Earnest), and Joy Scurlock (Don), brother, John Shelton, sister, Marcelle Edwards, grandchildren, Justin Franklin, Eric Dodson, Rachel Dodson, Blake Scurlock, and Dustin Scurlock, and great grandchild, William Dodson.
The family will receive friends Thursday, May 22, 2014, from 12-2 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home with funeral services following at 2 PM in the chapel. Interment will be Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
