Ronald Earl Dortch, Jr., age 63, moved his long-term Birmingham residence to his heavenly home on Monday, December 23, 2024. Ronnie was born in Birmingham, AL on January 3, 1961, to Carmen and Ronald Earl Dortch, Sr. He later moved to Peoria, IL and Findley Lake, NY before returning to Birmingham to attend college. He was preceded in death by his father Ronald Sr., stepfather James Ellsworth, and sister Pam Ellsworth.
Ronnie is survived by his loving wife of 33 years Dawn (Green) Dortch and his children Lainey Clowdus (Wil), Gabrielle Pourreau (Patrick), Matthew Dortch (Natalie), and Sarah Dortch. Ronnie also found great delight in a much-loved grandson Phillip Wilson Clowdus III (Trace) and was anticipating the birth of a new grandson in May to Gabrielle and Patrick.
Also left to mourn his passing are his mother, Carmen Dunn Ellsworth, and his siblings Valery Hulsey, Sheri Morris, Bruce Ellsworth, Alan Dortch, Tissie Ballenger, James Ellsworth Jr., and Melanie Hogan, as well as many other beloved family members.
A graduate of Clymer High School and Southeastern Bible College, Ronnie was blessed with an incredible work ethic and brilliant mind. He was a plant manager for Synergy Solutions at the time of his death. He had an entrepreneurial spirit and started many businesses during his time in the work force.
Ronnie was a kind and loving husband, father, son, and brother. He had a large family and took care of everyone around him selflessly. He was a servant hearted leader to his family and employees, sharing his strong faith wherever he went. Always the life of the party, Ronnie brought constant joy and laughter to those around him. His life was defined by his love for God and his love for his family. Genuine and intentional, Ronnie was a Godly man who modeled sacrificial love and faithfulness.
A memorial celebration of his life and testimony will be on January 18th at 11:00am at Shades Mountain Community Church, where Ronnie was a member for over 16 years. Visitation is at 10am. Arrangements by Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hoover, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shades Mountain Community Church Missions Fund.
