Roger Rutland

January 7, 1944 — October 25, 2005


of Bessemer, passed away on October 25, 2005, at the age of 61. He was a U. S. Marine veteran of the Vietnam War and a graduate of the University of Alabama. Mr. Rutland retired after 25 years of service as a Birmingham school teacher and was owner of Rutland Souvenirs. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who loved spending time with his grandchildren, fishing and Alabama football. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Martha Ann Rutland of Bessemer; one daughter, Andrea Rutland Hogue (Kip) of Hoover; two grandchildren, Reid and Rhyne Hogue; two brothers, Billy Cook and Donald Bigbee; two sisters, Darlene Taylor (Jackie) and Kathy Holland; and many other family and friends. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 28, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Memorial. The family requests any donations be made to Children's Hospital. Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home directing.
