Mr. Roberto L. Luna, age 85, of Birmingham, passed away October 15, 2011. He was born in Panama and moved to the U.S. in 1958 with his wife, Josefa. He was a long time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Jackson, MS, and currently attended Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. He was instrumental in getting soccer started in the Jackson area and was the first soccer coach at Mississippi College and also coached at St. Joseph High School. He was retired from Dallas Printing Co. in Jackson, MS. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is preceded in death by his wife, Josefa, and Roberto Jr. He is survived by a son, Alexander Luna (Beth), a daughter, Elizabeth Maziarz (Michael), three surviving sisters in Panama, nine grandchildren, Blake, Taylor, Anna, and Abbey Luna, Brandon, Christian, Zachary, Alexandra, and Gabrielle Maziarz. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 20, from 5-7 PM at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. Services will be Friday, October 21, at 10:30 AM at the church. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
