STEWART, ROBERT L., of Birmingham, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at the age of 90. He was born in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania on February 23, 1919, the son of Rush and Ruth Stewart. He graduated from Camp Hill High School, Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, with the Class of 1937. A WWII veteran, Bob served with the 97th Squadron of the 82nd Fighter Group, US Air Force, in North Africa and Italy, from 1942 to VE Day in 1945. Prior to WWII, he was a member of the National Guard, 104th Cavalry, Pennsylvania Governor's Troop, from 1937 to 1940. Bob worked for the Statesman Group/Employers Mutual from 1938 to 1998, when he retired as President and Chairman of the Board of American Liberty Insurance Company, Birmingham, Alabama. A 50 year member of West Shore Lodge #681, Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, Bob was also a member of Riverchase United Methodist Church in Birmingham since 1984. Beginning in 1995, he was an employee of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course, Birmingham. He started caddying when he was ten years old and was an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Stewart; two children, Judy Stewart and Leilani Nemeroff; three step-children, Christy Marecle, Jon Mark Taylor, and Amy Jackson; two grandchildren, Jesse Covan and Tabitha Nemeroff; six great grandchildren, Lindsey Marecle, Haley Marecle Brown, Jordan Jackson, Hayden Jackson, Forrest Taylor, and Seth Taylor; and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 PM, Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150 in Hoover. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, Dr. Jim Savage, Rev. John Ray, and Dr. Ed Underwood officiating.
