Dr. Robert Benjamin Hatfield, Sr., age 73, met Jesus face to face on November 5, 2022. He was born in Tylertown, MS, to Rev. Benjamin and Ginger Hatfield. He was married to Polly Sue Moore of Greensboro, GA, for over 51 years. He lived most of his life in the Birmingham area where he was Minister of Music at Dawson Family of Faith for 35 years. Dr. Hatfield graduated from Samford University, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and finally, Beeson Divinity School with a Doctor of Ministry. In addition to involvement in ministries of churches, he was also involved in educational endeavors. He served as President of the Southern Baptist Church Music Conference for two years, Adjunct Professor of Music at Samford University, and Adjunct Professor in the Beeson Divinity School. He was named Alumnus of the Year by Truett McConnell College and Alumnus of the Year by Beeson Divinity School. Bob could be found beginning every morning in his home sitting at a table studying God’s word and praying for each family member by name. He spent his days loving and serving the people at Dawson, the community, and his family. Some of his favorite times were leading music and mission groups to locations all over the world and playing games with his children and grandchildren in his dining room. All of these adventures were sure to include ice cream and lots of jokes and laughter. Known for his joy, gentleness, faithfulness, and wisdom, Bob was affectionately known as “Hat,” “Rev,” “Dr. Bob,” “the other Bob,” Popps, and Dad. His smile was infectious and constant, and his kindness impacted the lives of thousands. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Ben & Ginger Hatfield. He is survived by his loving wife, Polly Sue Moore and his children, Kimberly Hatfield Beam (Matt), and Robert Benjamin Hatfield, Jr. (Laurie).
