Robert Bruce

d. April 29, 2009

went home to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer. Through interim music work at local churches and teaching Sunday school for many years with his wife June, Bob's faith and optimistic view of life touched innumerable people. His lifelong dream of owning his own business was realized in 1983 when Bruce Office Supply was incorporated. A family affair from the beginning, his son Scott took over when Bob retired in 2000 to enjoy travel with June. He is survived by his lifelong sweetheart of 53 years, June Turner Bruce, 2 children, Scott and Susan (David Little), 5 much loved grandchildren Brittany, Brianne, Reed, Melissa and Christopher, mother in-law, Nell Turner Pugh, 4 brothers Earl, Jr. (Alfa), Jack (Bonnie), Raymond (Betty), and Jerry (Jan), many nieces, nephews and friends, especially the Sunday School class at Hunter Street Baptist Church whom he loved like family. Special thanks to Janice Samples of Angel Care sitters, Coni Edwards of Alacare Hospice and all those at the Kirklin Clinic at Acton Road for their help and care. Visitation will be at the Hunter Street Baptist Church sanctuary Friday, May 1, 2009, from 12-2 PM with the service immediately following. Burial will be at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South on Highway 150/John Hawkins Pkwy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Big Oak Ranch (John Croyle Boy's Ranch), the Patient Fund at Kirklin Clinic at Acton Road or UAB Cancer Research.
