Richard A. Turner passed away peacefully at home in Birmingham, AL surrounded by his family on August 19, 2020. He was born on March 4, 1935 in Birmingham. He was preceded in death by his mother, Inez Turner, and his father, Jesse Turner. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Sandra Mauldin Turner, daughters Laurie Goodloe (Bill), Karen Barrios (Camille), and Sandy Gann (Randy). Grandchildren; Jordan Sterley (Matt), Matthew Goodloe (Dana), Hayden Gann, Jamie Swiderski (Scott). Great grandchildren; Madden and Peyton Sterley, Michael Swiderski, and Hadley and Parker Goodloe. Brothers; Bill Turner (Mary Jane), and Roger Turner (Sherry). Sisters; Shirley Cooper, and Carole Williams (Sonny).

Richard graduated from West End High School in 1953 and Auburn University in 1958. He was a passionate supporter and fan of Auburn. He retired from U.S. Steel in 1996 after 38 years. Richard and Sandra were charter members of Saint Mark United Methodist Church in Vestavia when it was formed in 1961.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Saint Mark United Methodist Church Children’s Department or the Parkinson’s Foundation.

Due to covid-19 restrictions, services will be limited to family only.
