Richard was born in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, and graduated from Chicopee High School in 1961. He attended Western New England University and graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Business and then with a Master Degree in Accounting (MBA). Richard started his career as an Accountant and quickly became Controller for several Fortune 200 companies. He was a private pilot with an instrument and commercial rating and attained the rank of Captain in the Civil Air Patrol. During his lifetime Richard owned three single engine airplanes and enjoyed many years flying with his family across the United States. After retirement he started his own construction company and successfully built numerous homes in the Hoover, AL area.
He is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Catherine Kubik, and by his grandparents.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joan Kubik, his daughter, Dr. Kari Kubik (Dr. Danny Lee), his son, Kenneth Kubik P.E., and his four cherished grandchildren, Sam Lee, Zoey Lee, Leon Kubik, and Evan Kubik. He is also survived by his sister, Terri Harrison, his brother, Frank (Judy) Kubik and other close relatives including aunts and cousins.
Richard was a life-long Roman Catholic and a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Hoover, AL. The family would like to thank the wonderful people at UAB Palliative Care who cared for him.
There will be a visitation on Saturday, December 7, 2019 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home. Richard will be entombed at Jefferson-Memorial Gardens South in Hoover, AL. The family suggests that memorial gifts be made to Richard’s favorite charities: Shriners Hospital, St. Jude’s or any children’s hospital of your choice.
