Richard Lynn Irwin, 78, of Hoover, AL went Home to his Heavenly Father on January 19, 2024 surrounded by his wife and three daughters. He was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.
Born July 23, 1945 in Middlesboro, KY, he was the son of John Edward Irwin, Irene Estes Brunson, Orlando Malatino, and Kathryn Malatino. He graduated from Anniston High School in 1964 and Jacksonville State University in 1970. He retired after 30 years of dedicated service with Kraft Foods.
He was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed traveling with his family and making special memories. He was always up for a cruise. He will be remembered for his strong Faith, his fierce love for his family, and his incredible integrity.
Richard is survived by his wife of 57 wonderful years, Sheila Dean Irwin. He also leaves his beloved three daughters Linda (Dave) Thomas, Paula (Davin) Addison, and Pamela (Mike) Wray; seven grandchildren David Thomas, Bradley Thomas, Chandler Addison, Mike (Brittaney) Wray, Brianna Wray, Jake Wray, and Richard "Win" Wray; three brothers Tony (Phyllis) Malatino, Ray (Debbie) Malatino, and Tom (Jana) Malatino; one sister Donna Fine; sister-in-laws Diane Brunson and Denise Morton; and many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents John Edward Irwin and Irene Estes Brunson; his parents by affection Orlando and Kathryn Malatino; his sister Evelyn Banister; his brother Lonnie Malatino; his brother-in-laws Simon Banister, Donald Brunson, and James Morton; and his nephew Alex Banister.
Visitation will be on Sunday January 28th from 2 - 4 pm at the Currie Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover, AL. A funeral mass will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Hoover, AL on Monday January 29th at 10:30am. Following there will be a graveside service at approximately 12:30pm at the Forestlawn cemetery in Anniston, AL. After graveside, family and friends will gather at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church Family center for fellowship.
