age 88 yrs. of Vestavia and member of Hoover First Baptist Church, went to be with his Lord on August 22, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eleonore Brautigam Machen of Germany; daughter Lore Tarrance (Marvin) of Keller, TX; son Van Machen (Ginnie) of Pleasant Grove; son Lee Machen (Renee) of Dacula, GA; son Peter Machen (ReRe) of Gulf Shores; and Susan Schafer of Chelsea; 11 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. Rev. Machen was preceded in death by his parents, Luther C. and Ulah Lee Machen of Sylacauga; brother Otis Machen and infant son Rudy Samuel Machen. Rev. Machen was pastor of Valley Grove Baptist (Colbert Co.), Nitrate City Baptist (Colbert Co.), Bluff Park Baptist (Jefferson Co.), Tallasehatchie Baptist (Talladega Co.), Rocky Ridge Baptist (Jefferson Co.), and Lagoon Baptist (Baldwin Co.), serving a total of 44 years. Bro. Machen was active in missions, having made 26 mission trips abroad and within the United States. He retired from South Central Bell (41 years) and was a World War II Army veteran participating in the European campaigns. Funeral service will be on Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel, Hwy. 150, Hoover, with Dr. Randy Atkinson officiating. A family graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Sylacauga.
