Rena Jo Fetner Cummings, 96, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2023. She was the third of seven children born to Joseph and Irene Fetner in Roanoke, in Randolph County Alabama. She married Carl Ray Cummings and together they had three sons. Rena Jo completed her Bachelor of Science Degree at Jefferson-Hillman Hospital Medical College of Alabama and began a long career as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. After 30 years with the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Birmingham, she retired but continued working as a Nurse Anesthetist for Oral Surgeon, Dr. William Buck, Sr. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband, and her youngest son, Joseph Bart Cummings. She was also pre-deceased by her siblings, Ella Mae, Wyatt, Stell, & Handley Fetner.
She is survived by her two youngest siblings, Martha Fetner Baba & Klein Fetner; she is also survived by her sons, David Russell (Deborah) Cummings and Paul Alan (Judie) Cummings and daughter-in-law Susan Cummings. Mrs. Cummings was the very proud grandmother to 9 Grandchildren: Brad (Ashley) Cummings, Christina Cummings-Thompson, Brandy (Cliff) Briggs, Molly (Morgan) Higdon, Mathew Cummings, Hayley Cummings, Alex (Tiffani) Cummings, Joseph (Kaitlyn) Cummings, and Haley Blackwood; 14 Great-Grandchildren: Nicole Cummings, Austin Thompson, Kaylee Cummings, MJ Thompson, Jacob Cummings, Caiden Cummings, Addison Blackwood, Skyler Cummings, Jaxon Blackwood, Ella Jo Cummings, AJ Briggs, James Cummings, Joseph Cash Cummings, and Noah Cummings, as well as 2 Great-great grandchildren, Blakely Cummings, and Layla James Thompson. Mrs. Cummings was also survived by countless nieces, nephews, cousins and honorary grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Brad Cummings, Mathew Cummings, Alex Cummings, Joseph Cummings, Terry Crump & Dalton Rivers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jacob Cummings, Caiden Cummings, Jaxon Blackwood, James Cummings, Joseph Cash Cummings, Noah Cummings and AJ Briggs.
Visitation will be held at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Wednesday April 5, 2023, with funeral service at 2:00, followed by graveside service in the Garden of The Old Rugged Cross.
Rena's favorite colors were pinks and lavender. If attending the services, please consider wearing these colors to honor her memory.
