Reita Eujannie Buzachero Walsh, Jane or Jannie if you knew her well, was born in Dothan, AL, on March 27, 1943. She lived up to her initials REB and forged her way in life by her own rules. She and former husband Thomas Walsh had one son, Sean. She prayed he’d have a sense of humor, and found this prayer answered, even if his sarcasm drove her crazy some (most) times.
Jane began teaching in 1969 in Decatur, AL, and retired in 2011 from Shelby County School System. She taught at Riverchase Middle and Oak Mountain Middle Schools. Her classroom was unlike most, with couches, a kitchen table, and a library with its own organizational system. She loved her kids so much!
Jane never meet a stranger, genuinely asking about folks’ lives so she could get to know them—and pray for them. A lifelong lover of books, she would binge-read an author’s entire body of work while others binge-watched Netflix. She could also be counted on to cheer for the Crimson Tide every Saturday in the fall.
Jannie passed away suddenly on March 11, 2017. She is preceded in death by grandparents, Sallie and Eugene Trawick, father John Buzachero, brother Brent Buzachero, and fiancé Johnny Hagler.
She is survived by her mother Corrine Buzachero, her “number one son” Sean Walsh (Carolyn), brother Victor Buzachero (Nancy), nephew Christopher Buzachero (Annie Kastanek), niece Jessica Buzachero, her cat Chance, and friends she held dear.
A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, March 16, with visitation at 5 pm and a service at 6 pm, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home; 2701 John Hawkins Pkwy, Hoover, AL, 35244. She will be laid to rest in Panama City, FL. If you can’t make it, have a cup of hot tea and a scone in her memory.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to M-POWER Ministries Literacy; PO Box 321233; Birmingham, AL 35232.
