Rebecca Lisk Patterson

September 5, 1943 — February 2, 2025

McCalla, Alabama

Rebecca Lisk Patterson of McCalla, AL received her “Angel Wings” on February 2, 2025 after a 4-year tenacious battle with breast cancer. Her resilience during the past 4 years was witnessed by family, friends and medical professionals and has given inspiration to us all. She survived months of radiation, years of chemo treatments and numerous medical procedures and never once said “I give up”. Becky was the Bravest – no doubt!!

Becky was born on September 5, 1943 to Jack and Viola Howell Lisk in Haleyville, AL. Becky moved to Birmingham as a toddler when her father returned from WWII. She graduated from West End High School in 1962 and attended business classes at night. She married her husband (James Patterson) of 60 years in 1963 and raised her family in Midfield, AL.

Becky was very involved with her community including Midfield Elem crossing guard, operating the girls’ softball concessions, Midfield High School Band trips, and Birchwood HOA board member. She loved supporting her grandkids through attending countless sporting events, fundraisers and graduations. She loved all the birthday parties especially the ones that included costumes – she loved to dress up.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James Patterson, her parents, Jack and Viola Howell Lisk, and her brother David Lisk.

She is survived by daughters Nancy Patterson Thomas (Randy) of Hoover, AL and Jamie Patterson Snider (Alan) of Athens, AL. Sister-in-law Dana Lisk of Harrison, AR. Brother-in-law David Patterson (Susan), Sister-in-Law Janice Patterson, Brother-in-law Conrad Pellegra, and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was blessed with seven wonderful grandchildren that loved and cherished everything about her- Blake Thomas of Hoover, AL, Courtney Thomas Morgan (Bobby) of Hoover, AL, Jillian Thomas Deas (Dr. Dale Deas) of Atlanta, GA, Andrew Snider (Marianna) of Broken Arrow, OK, Ashleigh Snider Hainline (Kenny) of Crookston, MN, Anna Grace Snider and Amy Beth Snider of Athens, AL. She loved her great-grandchildren Brody Deas, Peyton Snider, Paisley Snider and Bobbi Elizabeth (Izzy) Morgan- seeing them made her so very happy.

Becky started working at Western Union in 1961 while still in high school and her love of math led her to a banking career at BTNB for 10 years. After taking a few years off to raise her girls she went to work at UAB Hospital for 27 years. During this time, she battled her first bout with breast cancer – never missing a day of work and using her lunch time to complete radiation treatments. After finally getting tired of leaving James at home every day she decided to retire after 27 years - unfortunately retirement lasted only one month because her husband wanted her to cook every two hours, so she returned to work and spent 9 years at Brookwood Hospital. Becky finally agreed to retire if James started cooking – he did!!

Becky loved working in her flower garden, English Tea Parties, dancing to disco music, beach walks looking for shells, garage sales, watching John Hagee, reading detective novels and going on “Girl” trips. She was better than James Spann at tracking storms and her dedication to being the family weather reporter will be greatly missed. She will always be remembered for her famous Chicken and Dumplings – the best in the world!!

The family would like to thank her Oncologist Dr Katia Khoury at UAB for her commitment to helping Becky achieve all her goals and her sincere kindness and positive attitude throughout this journey. We cannot say enough about the UAB Palliative Care Unit – they are just awesome! Thank you to the Birchwood Neighborhood, especially Steve & Dorinda Cain, Scott & Tammy Atkins, Doris Milford, Faye Alford and Andrea Parham, your kindness to our Mom was unmeasurable. Thank you to our family friend Garron Endicott for visiting and praying with our Mom and her nephew -Pastor Greg Crocker for your faithful prayers – knowing that she loved Jesus gives us comfort and peace!!
