Phillip Simendinger

March 25, 1944 — December 12, 2015

Phillip Richard Simendinger passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2015. Phil was born and raised in Springfield, Ohio where he met and married the love of his life, Joyce Ann McAtee Simendinger on August 17, 1968, after returning from the Navy. His children include Marie Suzanne Sharpe and husband Mike, Anne Renee Manscill and husband David, Linda Jayne Kurtts and husband Russell, and Phillip Simendinger, Jr. He was blessed with and enjoyed all seven of his grandchildren: Maggie and Jacob Sharpe, Elizabeth, Lauren and Abby Manscill and Savannah and Alexa Kurtts. Phil was born on March 25, 1944 and graduated from Catholic Central High School. He was in the Navy and enjoyed working, especially as Director of Engineering from Fairhaven Retirement Facility where he spent his last many years working. He was an administrator, a persistent planner, an organizer, an engineer, a developer and a hard worker. He was also hilarious and loved to joke around and laugh. His motto was “life is good”, “so let it be said, so let it be written” and “let’s get this show on the road”. If he could tell his obituary himself he would probably say something like, “let them know that my work here is done. I received a call, a sort of an offer you can’t refuse, for an appointment from which I will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family and friends not seen in a long time. God is greater than cancer - #teamPhil has now won!” and he would say it with his big 1980s glasses that he refused to change and his glorious smile. Phil loved the water and loved his train but all paled in comparison to how much he loved his family. There wasn’t anything he would not do for them. He always referred to his children as “the best gift he had ever received” and his wife, Joyce, was his best friend and absolute love of his life. Phil fought a hard battle with cancer and was a warrior, trusting in God to the end. The days were not always easy but he was always thankful for each one he had. He will leave a great void but we know we will see him again in Heaven where there is no more cancer and no more pain. I know he is breathing freely and easily now and is at peace. God>cancer #teamPhil A service to celebrate his life will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, December 15, 2015.
