Paula Gonzalez

Paula Leigh Hethcox Gonzalez, age 69, of Hoover, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, September 15th, 2024. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. Paula is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Lucy Hethcox. She is survived by her husband, Charles Gonzalez, her two children, Jessica Gonzalez Whitworth (Ben) and Nicholas Gonzalez, her sister, Celia Voorhees (Steve), and her four cherished grandchildren, Charlotte, Cate, Nell, and Isaac.

Born on April 28th, 1955, in Evergreen, AL, Paula spent the majority of her childhood in Talladega, AL before pursuing her passion for nursing. She earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Throughout her career as a Nurse Practitioner, Paula made a significant impact on the Birmingham healthcare community, culminating in her work at UAB before her retirement.

Paula's adventurous spirit was evident in her life, including memorable travels down the Amazon River and a cruise through the Panama Canal. She also had a deep love for gardening, spending countless hours cultivating her garden and eventually earning her Master Gardener certification. Above all, Paula's greatest joy was spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren, creating lasting memories with them at every opportunity.

Visitation will be held at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home on Thursday, September 19th, at 3:00 p.m., with the funeral service to follow at 4:00 p.m.
