Ottis Leslie Satterwhite, resident of Alabaster, AL, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 19, 2024, after a thankfully short battle with lung cancer.
Leslie was born in Adamsville, AL on September 27, 1943. He graduated from Minor High School and later studied at Montevallo University and the University of Alabama. As a young man he worked as a draftsman and taught piano and then spent many years as the city clerk for his hometown of Adamsville before retiring from LabCorp in Birmingham.
He was always proud to show off his 1967 convertible Camaro, which he bought new and kept for the rest of his life. He loved to play the piano for family and friends, at one time as part of the Royal Masters Quartet and then in later years at various church services, holidays, and events.
Leslie was a devoted husband and father and was a longtime member of Forestdale Church of God and later Alabaster Church of God.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jimmie and Hazel Satterwhite of Adamsville, AL; sisters Gayle Bottenfield of Charlotte, NC and Jean Thompson of Adamsville, AL; and his brother Ray Satterwhite of Shelby, AL.
He is survived by his loving wife Barbara Garrett Satterwhite, daughter Lesley Karen Satterwhite of Atlanta, GA, and son Brandon Satterwhite of Juno Beach, FL.
Leslie lived for twenty years with Parkinson's disease. The family would appreciate any donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation's efforts for Parkinson's research, and anyone willing to help further their research can sign up to join their PPMI (Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative) study here.
Services will be held at Currie-Jefferson funeral home on August 24, 2024, with visitation from 12 to 1pm and chapel service and burial beginning at 1pm.
