of Birmingham, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at the age of 102. Ms. Opal was a lifelong Alabama resident who lived independently until the age of 100. Upon graduating, she entered the business world, serving as a buyer for 25 years for Blach's Dept. Store, travelling to New York every season. After retiring, she directed club activities at the YWCA for ten years. Aunt Opal had no children of her own, but loved and helped raise many, always being there when needed. She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Smallridge; brothers, Guy Sellers and Midd Sellers; and sisters, Mary Cosper and Louise Holt. She is survived by many loving family members and friends. The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM, Saturday, July 5, 2008, at the Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home on Hwy 150 in Hoover. A funeral service will follow at 11 AM in the funeral home chapel, Edd Spencer officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alzheimers of Central Alabama or First Christian Church of Birmingham.
