Nina Oakley

Mrs. Nina Johns Oakley, of Bessemer, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the age of 76, after an extended illness. She retired from National Bank of Commerce in 2002 after 20 years of service. She enjoyed traveling, having traveled to all of the 48 contiguous states, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean Islands. Nina was a loving wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus and Izola Johns, two sisters, Ann Dearing and Josephine Boone, and son-in-law, Mark McDowell.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Donald F. Oakley; a daughter, Gayle Oakley McDowell; one sister, Elizabeth Johns Georgecink (Bob); step granddaughter, Jessica Franks (Jason); step great granddaughter, Danica Franks; an aunt, Myra Dockery; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 from 6 to 8 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home. A private family graveside will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Breast Cancer Research or to Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
