Nelson Hicks, Jr

Nelson Hicks, Jr., a life-long resident of Bessemer, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2017, at age 91. He retired from the Bessemer City School System after 26 years of service. Nelson was a member of the Bessemer Chorale, a music leader in several churches over his life and most recently was a member of Canaan Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his son, Stephen Nelson Hicks.

Nelson is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ethelene Hicks; two daughters, Joanna Morgan (Bob) and Esther Hicks; three grandchildren, Daniel, Michael and Jessica Morgan; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 22, 2017, from 12-1 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home with the service to follow in the Chapel. Rev. Morgan Bailey and Rev. Fritz Harter, officiating. A private family burial will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Alex City, AL.
