Nana Joy Sasser Farrell, 63, passed away on June 20, 2015 after a very brief battle with small intestine cancer. Born in Andalusia on October 31, 1951 to Samuel Tilden and Bessie Davis Sasser, the family moved to Tuscaloosa in 1952 where Nana attended University Place Elementary, Tuscaloosa Junior and Senior High Schools, and received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama. She later moved to Birmingham to work with the Social Security Administration from which she retired in 2003 after 28 years of service. A longtime resident of Bluff Park, Nana was a founding member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and a Bread and Roses team leader for over 20 years. Those who knew Nana will remember her love of nature, music, the beach, and her ability to enjoy herself anywhere. Her joyous spirit was infectious. Nana is survived by the love of her life and husband of 34 years, George, daughter Pamela Cherry (Shane Stubblefield), granddaughters Edie and Sophie, mother Bessie, mother and father-in-law George and Barbara Farrell, sisters Jo Armstrong (Terry) and Jan Sasser (Scott Barton), brother Jon Sasser, brothers-in-law Chris (Carlos Avelar), Sean (Mary Beth), and Kevin, sister-in-law Suzanne Murphy (David), uncles Lamar Davis and Bob Dewald, aunt Liz Davis, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins who will all miss her deeply.
