Jean was born on November 21, 1928 in Greenville, Mississippi, the daughter of Thomas and Ruby Mosley. She grew up in the tiny delta town of Arcola, Mississippi with her five siblings. When she met Lew, it was love at first sight. She married him after WWII and became a “military wife” when Lew decided to remain in the Air Force after the Korean War.
Jean was a full-time homemaker. She was a terrific cook and hostess who loved to entertain her family and friends. She baked and decorated whimsical birthday cakes for her children and grandchildren. She was active in her children’s lives, frequently serving as room mother or scout leader. She loved playing board games, especially Chinese checkers, with her children and grandchildren, and she always played to win. Jean was a talented seamstress, creating anything from everyday women’s clothing, to Halloween costumes, to curtains, to her daughter’s wedding dress. She could paint anything, whether it was oil paintings, pottery, walls, or furniture. Lew’s career required a lot of moving, but Jean loved to decorate each new home. Her family discovered that she even had a hidden talent for poetry after we found a box of poems in her later years. Jean was always active in her church home and was a Sunday school teacher for many years of her life.
She was much loved by her husband, children, grandchildren, and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
