Mrs. Mildred Stagner Ballard Lamon, of Birmingham, died on April 18, 2015, at the age of 95. She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, James Thomas Lamon. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Lamon Gooldrup (Michael), granddaughter Lisa Gooldrup Costanzo (Matthew) and great-granddaughter Julia Linden Costanzo; and by her daughter Jeanette Ballard Cheramie, grandchildren Cheryll, Lynn, and Chris Cheramie, and great-grandchildren, Quinntin, Lynn IV, Holly, Sammy and Riley Cheramie. She was preceded in death by her son, Billie Charles Ballard.
Mildred was happiest being in her home and enjoyed cooking, reading and sewing. She spent many hours taking care of her family, cooking and shopping for them, reading and cutting out articles for them to read, and sewing and altering her and her family's clothes to make them perfect. She loved watching old movies and going to plays, and she enjoyed driving her 1995 red Cadillac. She and her husband, James, spent many weekends traveling the southeast to attend car shows with their 1932 Chevrolet. She especially enjoyed being with her little dogs, Katie and Bella. After her husband passed away in May, 2011, she looked forward to the day that she and James would be together again.
She was deeply loved and will be missed by her family and all those who knew her. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. The many lessons she taught by her words and example will always be cherished.
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 23rd, at 10:00 a.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home on Highway 150 in Hoover. A graveside service will begin at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
