Mr. Melvin Lawrence Williams, of Hoover, Alabama went home to be with his Savior on June 24, 2013 at the age of 87. Melvin was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. He retired from US Steel with 42 years of service. Melvin was married to Janet Stanier Williams for 62 years. Melvin served as head usher at South Hills Bible Chapel for 11 years. He entertained many while playing his harmonica, fellowshipped with church members at Hunter Street Baptist Church and Riverchase Village, enjoyed watching golf and football with family and friends, and attended many activities of his grandchildren. Melvin was preceded in death by his father, Williams J. Williams; mother, Easter Lillie Williams; brother, Arthur Williams. He is survived by his wife Janet Williams; sister: Evelyn Miller; brother: William Williams (Helga); children: Karen Linden (Marq), Larry Williams (Charlene), Craig Williams (Connie); grandchildren: Derek Williams, Keith Williams, Travis Williams (Emily), Kelsie Williams. Much appreciation for his care is extended to the staff at Riverchase Village, the Doctors and Nurses at UAB Highlands and Diana Gill from Choice Home Care Specialists. The celebration of life service will be held at Hunter Street Baptist Church on Saturday, July 13th at 3:00 PM. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service.
