Melvin Knight

Mr. Melvin Leroy Knight, age 80, of Guntersville, AL, formerly of Hoover, AL, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2011. He was a member of Guntersville First Baptist Church. He served in the US Army and the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He retired after 30 years of service as a Food Broker. He was a former member of the Hoover Country Club, an avid golfer, and an Alabama football fan. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Goodwin Knight, a son, Michael E. Knight (Joanie), a daughter, Susan K. Smith (Jamie), 4 grandsons, Adam Lee Knight (Paige), Michael Hunter Knight, Jacob Scott Smith, and Spencer Alan Smith, 1 great granddaughter, Jordan Diane Knight, 2 sisters, Ann McBrayer, and Robbie Roy, other family members and a host of friends. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 20, 2011, from 10-11 AM at Guntersville First Baptist Church. The funeral service will be at 11 AM at the church with Rev. Charles Watkins officiating. The committal service will be at 3 PM in Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Young Men's Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Guntersville First Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Children's Harbor, 1 Our Children's Highway, Alexander City, AL 35010-8620.
