Marygene Allison

November 22, 1930 — July 25, 2023

Marygene King Allison of Birmingham, Alabama, entered heaven on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 to be with Jesus, her precious Savior, and George, her beloved husband. She was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on November 22, 1930, to Eugene and Willie Guy Reed King.

Marygene was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, George Arnold Allison.

She was an only child, but left a large quiver of arrows for the Lord to use in ministry:

3 sons: John Marion Allison (Susan), Joseph King Allison (Sebrina), and George Michael Allison (Janna).

9 grandchildren: Dr. Brandon Allison (Heather), Blake Allison (Kelleyann), Bennett Allison, Jordan Allison (Jessica), Joy Eakins (Anthony), Sarah Allison, Christopher Allison (Krista), Lindsay Myers, and Cody Allison (Kornelia).

13 great grandchildren: Marisa, Gavin, Faith, Clara, David, Colton, Adaleigh, Aria, Paisley, Kimber, Elijah, Hazel, and Lucy.

She leaves behind her precious nieces, nephews, cousins, and many extended family members and special friends who have felt the impact of her life.

In 1953, this power couple began their journey, and despite ministry trials and challenges that accompany all pastorates, they created a beautiful life blessed by God. The Allisons were called to the foreign mission field in 1966, serving in Vicenza, Italy, for 2 years until medical issues brought them back to the states. In total, the Allisons served 20 churches in 60 years of ministry, with George in full-time Southern Baptist pastorates, as senior adult minister of Hunter Street Baptist Church, and then as interim pastor in multiple churches.

As matriarch of the Allison clan, Marygene creatively and emphatically encouraged her family to know and love the Lord. Her education prepared her to be a pastor's wife, an Old Testament scholar and teacher, and a creative artist. One of her passions was to teach the English language and Christian heritage to foreign exchange students. She loved to teach her Sunday School class ("her girls", as she called them) to love the Lord and their families. She was a prayer warrior and woman of faith who set an example for anyone who knew her.

Marygene was also known for her gift of hospitality, style, giving, and spiritual discernment. She knew how to make things beautiful and made every holiday and event something to remember. She gave freely to others and wanted those she cared about to have what they needed.

We are grieving but not like those who have no hope. We absolutely know and believe she is in the presence of Jesus and her loved ones, and we will see her again.

Please join us as we celebrate the life of this amazing woman, wife, daughter, mother, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend who leaves a void for all who knew and loved her.
