Mary Morris Rose

Mary Morris Rose of Hoover, Alabama, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 5, 2023, at the age of 79. She grew up in Homewood and resided in the Birmingham area for most of her life. She was a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church since childhood and was a graduate of Shades Valley High School.

She will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 62 years, Howard Rose; her daughters, Deborah Brakefield and Diane Keener (Jason); her sister, Barbara Kelley; and one grandson, James Brakefield (Gabriella). She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Fred and Evelyn Morris, as well as her brother, Fred Morris, Jr.

Mary was much loved by her family. She spent her life as a homemaker and cared for her husband and daughters. She also adored many pets over the years, including dogs, cats, and even some abandoned baby squirrels.

She enjoyed birdwatching and photography. She was fond of traveling to the North Carolina mountains and going on cruises to the Caribbean. She was skilled in needlework, particularly cross-stitch, and she especially enjoyed decorating for Christmas. She spent time reading her Bible and daily devotionals. You could often find her watching classic Hollywood movies, Alabama football games, and British comedies.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 11, 2023, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the chapel at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, 2701 John Hawkins Parkway, in Hoover, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m.

Mary was passionate about donating to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. If you wish to make a donation in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Jude, Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, or a charity of your choice.
