Mary Murphy

of Hoover, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2007, at the age of 74. She graduated from Auburn University with a BS degree in Education. She was a member of Bluff Park United Methodist Church for the past 50 years, where she was a member of the Opportunity Sunday School Class. Mrs. Murphy loved gardening, was an avid bowler, golfer, and was a member of Vestavia Country Club. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Luther C. Murphy; two daughters, Linda Marie Viljamaa (Panu Pekka) of New York City, NY, and Lisa Avant of Homewood; a son, Charles Murphy (Becky) of Houston, TX; two granddaughters, Shelby and Savannah Avant; and a brother, Carl Wood Jr. (Mary) of Bridgewater, VA. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 20, 2007, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy. 150, Hoover. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Reid Crotty officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
