Emanuel, Mary Lou Massengill, born Aug. 9, 1928, following an extended illness, was ushered into the presence of her Lord, February 18, 2010. She is survived by her husband, Wayne Emanuel, of 52 years; two sons and two daughters: Barton Emanuel of Manassas, Virginia; David Emanuel of Knoxville, Tennessee; Grace Ritter and Barbara Poe, both of Birmingham, Alabama; six grandchildren: Marissa Emanuel, Thomas Emanuel, Andrew Emanuel, Jessica Bartlett, Ashlyn Poe, and Lauren Poe; and an identical twin sister, Betty Sue Peters of Hillsdale, Michigan. Mary Lou was born in Middlesboro, Kentucky. At an early age she trusted Jesus Christ as her own personal savior and felt God calling her to missionary service. She served as a medical missionary to Japan for 37 years, helping to begin the Japan Baptist Hospital and serving as Director of the Japan Baptist School of Nursing in Kyoto for 26 years. She was well loved by missionaries and Japanese alike. A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 21, 2:30 p.m. at Lakeside Baptist Church with visitation from 2:00, and again following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lakeside Baptist Church for the Japan Baptist School of Nursing.
