Mary Dewberry (born Mary Ellen Broom) went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 13, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter E. Broom, Millicent M. Prouty, and stepfather Max. She lived a blessed life with her daughter, Jamie Prewitt Holtzclaw, and her grandchildren, Keaton and Jaida. But her first love was Christ and then her family. She was a member of Hunter Street Baptist Church and adored her Christian family there, loving small group interactions. She immensely enjoyed studying the Bible with her friends both at Hunter Street, her family members, and at the Preserve where she resided. She also praised God for every teaching opportunity He provided on many occasions in her life.
She cherished her family of two sisters, Mickie McCombs (Joe), Jennifer Whitten (Sandy), two brothers, David (Brenda) and Stephen Broom, and her wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins. She found great pleasure in serving them whenever she had a chance. She had life-long friends that she shared an abundance of happiness with. She had a heart for giving and helping and was honored to have been able to contribute to many ministries throughout her life, and she was bold enough to share her testimony whenever God provided an opportunity. She would literally give someone the shirt off her back if they needed it. Graduating from Woodlawn High School, she went on to earn a college degree, graduating Summa Cum Laude with high honors, was a member of Toastmasters and The American Business Women’s Association – holding key offices in both organizations. She gained a CPCU designation during her career with State Farm Insurance, presiding over her chapter for a season. She had also worked in management with an advertising agency and an insurance agency. Her last career involved a thriving real estate investor before retiring from business at the age of 75. Other interests included her Woodlawn High School GNO group of friends, world travel, golf, tennis, photography including under-water photography, snorkeling, and making gifts for everyone. She was a beautiful person inside and out and will be greatly missed. There will be a reception at Mary's home after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Hunter Street Baptist Church or to the Breast Cancer Foundation.
