Mary Delois Smith Baxter, 84, of Leeds, Alabama, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2024. She was born on July 19, 1940, in Birmingham to James Thurman Smith Sr. and Lillie Belle Gould.
Mary spent most of her life in the Leeds area and retired from a long and fulfilling career with the United States Postal Service. Throughout her life, she was deeply committed to serving others, volunteering at local nursing homes and providing care to those who were homebound.
A woman of many talents and passions, Mary enjoyed crafting, photography, refurbishing antiques, and dancing. She was also an active member of Grantswood Baptist Church in Irondale, participating in various activities and cherishing the time she spent with her friends and family.
Mary is survived by her loving husband, Cecil Carson Baxter Jr., and three of her four children: Randell Paul Moore of Georgia, Deanna (and Robert) Bullock of Lillian, AL, and Rex (and Audrey) Moore of Birmingham, AL. She is also survived by her three grandsons and three great-grandsons, all of whom she adored.
Mary's warmth, kindness, and devotion to her loved ones will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
