Mary Barnes

Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Barnes, of Hoover, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017, at age 85. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Betty attended First Baptist Church of Hoover and retired from the Hoover School System as a special education teacher after 15 years of service. She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Richard A. Barnes.

Betty is survived by her 3 sons, Andy Barnes (Brenda), Rick Barnes (Liz), and Tom Barnes (Connye); 1 daughter, Kathee Parks; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 16, 2017, from 1-2 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home. The service will follow at 2 PM in the Chapel with Dr. Randy Atkinson officiating. Interment will be at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South, immediately following the services.

In lieu of flowers, because of her love of animals and their love for her, the family requests donations be made to the Birmingham Humane Society: 300 Snow Dr., Birmingham, AL 35209.
