“You are my sunshine my only sunshine…”
Marvin Wayne Long (age 74) passed away on December 30, 2024. Originally from Wilmington North Carolina, he last hung his hat in Hoover Alabama. Intelligent, kind, hard-working and having a wonderful sense of humour were only a few of the many facets of his amazing personality. When not reading or watching Gunsmoke, he could be found sitting beside his family making them smile and laugh. He always had a joke or interesting fact to impart to the grandchildren. This is how he will be remembered as generous, kind and always mischievous, with the smile of a Cheshire Cat.
Wayne was born and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina where he met the love of his life Donna Lewis. With her by his side he was able to complete his time in the Army from 1968 to 1971. This included a tour of Vietnam where he was a radar repairman. He led a successful career as a Project Manager for textile, chemical and paper mills. Later, he headed up Technology and Reliability projects. Throughout his life he traveled to 5 of the 7 continents learning new languages, and even landing a stint on an oil rig in the North Sea. He then retired to be a full-time husband/grandpa/papa which we feel was his favourite job of all.
Wayne is survived by his spouse Donna Lewis Long, son Stephen, daughter Amy (deceased), daughter-in-law Karin, son through love Aaron D’Angiolillo and grandchildren Leif, Chloe, Aaron, Eleanor, and Ripley. Sibling to Harry and wife Anne(deceased), George and wife Phyllis, Mary Ann and husband Michael, Charles (deceased) and many cousins. He was a brother-in-law to Melody and husband Randy, Rob and wife Patty, Marion (deceased) along with uncle to many loved nieces and nephews and their children.
Proceeded in death by mother Thearl Long and in-laws Bill & Bea Lewis.
