BARNES, MARK BRAXTON, of Birmingham, passed away in his home on Sunday September 20 after a lengthy illness. Mark was born in Orlando, FL on September 20, 1946 to parents Marion Braxton and Barbara Frank-Barnes. He spent his childhood years in Panama City and Pensacola, FL. After graduation from Tate High School he served four years in the US Air Force with SAC in ND, and on return to civilian life settled in Pensacola, where he and his wife Diane raised their son. Mark relocated to Birmingham, AL in 1982 with his family where he spent his remaining years. Mark is survived by his wife of 40 years, Diane Smith Barnes; his son, Michael Braxton Barnes (DeAnne) of Atlanta, GA; sister, Mary Anne Gaffney of Pensacola; and brother Michael W Barnes (Derenda), also of Atlanta. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:30 PM, Friday, September 25, 2009, at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church in Hoover, AL. Funeral Mass will follow at 2:30 PM in the church. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Benedictine Sisters of Sacred Heart Monastery in Cullman, Alabama.
