Mrs. Margie S. Abbott, age 67, passed away on Sunday, July 28. A lifelong resident of the Birmingham area, she graduated from Bessemer City High School and studied at Samford University. She loved being on-the-go, and was active in a number of organizations. A devout Christian, she was a member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church where she was close to her friends in the Milt Chamberlain Sunday School Class. She volunteered with several church groups and sang for several years in the choir. She loved animals and was active in the Greater Birmingham Humane Society Auxiliary. Before coming to Shades Mountain Margie worked with youth and children for a number of years in both the Bessemer and Birmingham Churches of the Nazarene. She contributed countless hours to the many organizations that her family was involved with, including the Vestavia High School debate and math programs, choir, and theater; local horseback riding associations; and Rotary and Kiwanis clubs. Margie loved spending time with her family. She especially loved her devoted husband of 41 years, who took care of her every need during her illness, as well as her two children, of whom she was always so proud. She also adored her “girlsâ€, longtime friends with whom she frequently traveled and who were such devoted companions, especially during Margie’s last few months. She was a gifted artist, a lover of movies and musicals, and above all, a truly selfless giver-never turning down an opportunity to help out. She had an irreplaceable, sweet spirit and a remarkable sense of humor, even throughout her recent illness. She was the perfect wife and mother. She is survived by her husband, Frelon Abbott, Jr.; her two children, Trey Abbott and April Abbott; her brother, David McNair (Becky) and her mother-in-law, Geraldine Abbott. She is also survived by beloved in-laws Truman and Cheryl Abbott, Garry and Rhonda Abbott, and Ricky and Judy Abbott, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers at the funeral will be Aaron Abbott, David Abbott, Evan Abbott, Drew Ferguson, Paul Jacobs, Bobby Jinright, Kenny Karr, and Mickey Osborn. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2013, at 1:00 PM at the Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover, Alabama. Visitation will be from 11-1, and a graveside service will follow the funeral. The Rev. Keith Habermas will officiate, Milt Chamberlain will deliver a message, and Michael Adler will provide the music.
