Mable Lamb

Doctor of Nursing and a resident of Birmingham, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2005, at the age of 69. She was a graduate of the UA School of Nursing and was in the nursing field for 40 years. Beginning with her R.N. and culminating in her doctorate, Dr. Lamb worked as a nurse, taught and was an administrator in nursing schools. She also served in the armed services. Her legacy to those who follow her will be an endowing scholarship for nursing students, and through her generosity, recipients can concentrate on studies rather than finances. Dr. Lamb had an abiding interest in the University of Alabama School of Nursing at UAB. Through her completion of three degrees and employment at the school, she was a testament to the nursing program. After completing an R.N. diploma program, she received her B.S.N. in 1966 from the school, then located in Tuscaloosa. The school moved to Birmingham by the time she graduated with her M.S.N. in 1974. In 1980, she joined the School of Nursing faculty as a director of continuing education and graduate studies, and she was among the first to receive the school's D.S.N. degree three years later. Before joining the faculty, Dr. Lamb taught at Carraway Methodist Medical Center School of Nursing and was Director of nursing and chair for the division of Nursing and Allied Health Program at Jefferson State Junior College. She also became Captain Mable E. Lamb in the Alabama National Guard. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Dora Lamb. She is survived by a host of nieces and nephews, and her devoted dog, Pepper. Friends will be received on Wednesday, August 3, 2005, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150, Hoover. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2005, at 1:00 in the funeral home chapel with Father Henry McDade officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
