Mrs. Louise Reitzell Kughn, “Ms. Senior Calhoun County of 2004”, age 90, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at her residence in McCalla, AL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Houston Randolph Reitzell and mother, Lelia Kitchen Reitzell; a sister, Anna Mae Celia and two brothers, Eugene Reitzell and Sam Reitzell, Sr.
Ms. Kughn was a native of Louisiana where she lived her early life. At age 14, she lost her mother and became the primary caregiver of her two siblings, Sam Reitzell and sister, Anna Mae Celia. She worked closely with her husband in the ministry in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Anniston, AL, Gadsden, AL and Gallipolis, Ohio. She wrote for the World Evangelist many years and organized Ladies Days for many churches. She served as a teacher at the 16th & Noble Kindergarten for four years and also served as church secretary at the Central Church of Christ in Anniston. She was active with the Alabama Christian Youth Camp and Skyline Christian Youth Camp for sixteen years. Ms. Kughn taught Bible classes throughout her husband’s ministry. Ms. Kughn was also active in the Anniston High School PTA and Band Boosters of Anniston High School from 1965-1970.
In 2003, she won first runner up in the Ms. Senior Citizen Calhoun County Pageant where she won the Ms. Congeniality Award and was a member of the Cameo Club. In 2004 she was crowned Ms. Senior Calhoun County where she was very active in local events, charities, civic groups, special events, nursing homes, Alabama Welcome Centers, local fund raisers serving her city and county well throughout the state of Alabama. She was recognized by the Calhoun County Commission in 2004 for outstanding service for representation of Calhoun County. She was a former member of the Greenbrier Church of Christ in Anniston where she was active with the Senior Adult Ministry. She resided in Birmingham for the past four years and was a member of the Palisades Church of Christ in Birmingham.
Ms. Kughn is survived by her husband, William B. Kughn, Jr.; two sons, Kenneth E. Kughn and wife Teresa and Barry J. Kughn; four grandchildren, Jeremy E. Kughn and wife Jennifer, Jonathan T. Kughn and wife Amanda, Brianne Kughn Hendrick and husband Lance; Ashley Kughn Rowell and husband Brian; great grandchildren, Taylor Kughn, Tanner Kughn, Connor Kughn, Abbey Grace Kughn, Jayden Hendrick, Brian Rowell, Jr. and Austin Hendrick; a sister-in-law, Juanita Wilson; brother-in-law, John Celia; her spiritual son and daughter, Jim and Nancy Harrington; caregivers Caroline Chamberlain and Lacey; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral Services to celebrate her Home going will be Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the Greenbrier Church of Christ in Anniston with Jim Harrington and Jeremy Kughn officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 2 pm prior to the service at the church. A Graveside service will follow in Highland Cemetery with Glenn VanZandt officiating with Valhalla Funeral Home of Midfield, Al, http://valhallafuneralhome.com and Currie Jefferson Funeral Home of Hoover, http://www.curriejefferson.com are in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Kughn, Jonathan Kughn, Tanner Kughn, Lance Hendrick, Eric Turner, and Jay Wright.
