Linda Smith

age 59, of Bessemer, went home to be with the Lord on October 13, 2007 after her battle with cancer. She was a member of Southcrest Baptist Church for 31 years. She served as church organist, Sunday school teacher and held many other leadership roles. She worked for the Shelby County School System as a bus driver for 12 years. She was a loving and devoted wife, daughter, mother and "Nan". She was preceded in death by her father, D. Lamar Payne and her mother-in-law, Lillie V. Smith. She is survived by her loving husband, Roger Smith, Sr.; mother, Sada F. Payne; children and grandchildren, Joelle S. and Butch Tucker (Caleb and Haeden), Roger Jr. and Sonjia Smith (Ayla and Trey), Jonathan and Brande Smith (Peyton); sister, Donna P. Richardson and a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 14, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy. 150, Hoover. Her funeral service will be Monday, October 15, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with burial at Genery Gap Cemetery.
