Mrs. Linda A. Mitchell of Hoover, Alabama passed away December 28, 2022 at the age of 97. Born in Neshoba County, Mississippi on July 9, 1925 to her parents Leo and Gracie Spivey, she was the oldest child and big sister to her brothers Cortez, Everett and Max and sister Carolyn.
In March, 1945, Mrs. Mitchell married Therrel B. Lundy of Philadelphia, MS with whom she had two sons, Don and Tim. Her 25-year marriage to Mr. Lundy included moves from Neshoba County to Louisiana, Arkansas, Florida, North Carolina and Alabama. At each stop, Linda successfully created a nurturing home full of family and friends. Following Mr. Lundy’s death in 1972, she returned to Hoover, Alabama and returned to the workforce. She also found time to travel to places and adventures she had dreamed of including Hawaii and even whitewater river rafting down the Colorado River.
In May, 1978, she married Gerney D. Mitchell of Hoover. Together they traveled across the United States as a pair and with friends from their church senior group. Together they enjoyed many other hobbies including ceramics, gardening, and entertaining.
Mrs. Mitchell had a gift of hospitality and was thrilled to host large and small groups into her home. Her baking skills were always on full display during such occasions with many requests and demands for her baking specialties like strawberry cake, chocolate pie and coconut cake. Hospitality was her ministry and one at which she excelled.
She was married to and buried two World War II veterans and was a proud part of what is called The Greatest Generation. She served her country, her family and her Lord Jesus Christ with strength, dignity and faith.
Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her sons Donald S. Lundy (Candye) of Birmingham, Alabama and Timothy R. Lundy (Carrie) of Franklin, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husbands and grandson Jason N. Lundy.
A short service will be held Tuesday, January 3 at 10:15 a.m. prior to interment in Alabama National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Mrs. Mitchell’s name may be made to Change The Stars at changethestars.org.
