Lilian Culley White, 93, left this life to begin her eternal life with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 31. She joins her beloved husband of 68 years, Dewey.
Lil was a woman of great faith and endless love for God, family and friends.
Born in Birmingham, Lil attended Ramsay High School and was president of her class. She later graduated from Birmingham Southern College with honors and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Lil met the love of her life while at BSC and she and Dewey were married in 1945, thus beginning a life totally committed to one another. They enjoyed many adventures together including working on their farm, on the political front in Montgomery, and helping those less fortunate. She was also very involved in the lives of her four children as she taught ballet and led many Girl Scout groups and PTAs. Mimi, as her family called her, always had time to listen and comfort. She was there whenever needed or called upon, a true inspiration for her entire family. Lil loved her church and church family. At the age of three she began attending South Highland Presbyterian Church and remained a member throughout her life. Whether it was teaching Sunday school, arranging flowers or coordinating programs, she made South Highland her second home for almost 90 years.
Never afraid of a challenge or a task, she gave countless hours to organizations like Huguenot Society of Alabama, Colonial Dames, Gaieties Club and many others.
Lil was preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Donnell Hebbard Culley, her brother Don Culley, and beloved husband Dewey Anderson White, Jr.
She is survived by her children Lilette W. Robinson, Nancy W. Griffin (Kevin), Janet W. von Bechmann (Frank), Andy White (Nannette); grandchildren, Andy Puckett (Meagan), Glen Puckett (Heather), Van Kirchoff, Brett Kirchoff (Molly), Kellie Terrell (Tommy), John Griffin (Lynsey), Andrew Griffin, Nolan Griffin, Chip Marett (Kathryn), Laura Marett (Scott Wilkening), Britt Marett (Gabe Hein), Claire Marett, Anderson White (Lauren); great grandchildren, Anderson and Ava Jane Puckett, Cooper and Lily Puckett, Kendall and Kade Kirchoff, Mary Nolan Terrell, Kiley and Briggs Marett, Olive, Lawrence and Frances Hein, Dewey A. White V. Two sisters-in-law, Betty Pendle White, Martha Ross Culley and numerous nieces and nephews.
All of the family would like to thank Mimi’s devoted care givers Emma, Alvie and Annie who were such a blessing with their love and true devotion.
