Leonard Perry Isbell, of Birmingham, died Saturday, July 6, 2019, at the age of 82. Leo was a Christian who strived to live a life pleasing to God. He was educated in the Birmingham school system. In 1962, after attending UAB for 2 years, he became a real estate appraiser until he retired in 2006. Leo held a license/certification with the Alabama Real Estate Appraisers Board from the inception of the law, and he was active in the Society of Real Estate Appraisers and the Appraisal Institute, in which he held the professional designations of Senior Residential Appraiser and Residential Member. He served as president of the local chapter of the Society of Real Appraisers from 1981 to 1982. During his professional career, he served as Chief Appraiser at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development located in Birmingham. He also served as an appraiser with the Jefferson County Board of Equalization.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Sue Powell Ferebee Isbell; his wife, Grace Delois Hine Abaied Isbell; his wife, Doris Wood Isbell; father, Lonnie Hansel Isbell; mother, Ethel Dell Gibson Isbell; sister, Pauline Marie Perrin; and brother, Charles Hansel Isbell. He is survived by his brothers, John Earl Isbell and Glenn Isbell (Shelby); numerous nieces and nephews; and very dear friends.
The family will receive friends from 1-2, Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150 in Hoover. Funeral will follow in the chapel at 2:00. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
