The Reverend Leonard Bertram Gush, 92, of Vestavia Hills, Alabama was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa to Hilda Creak and Bertram M. Gush and was called to his heavenly home on June 30, 2020. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Bettye Nell (Clark) formerly of Hopkinsville, KY, daughter Beth Williams (Donald), son Kevin Gush (Lori), sister Ruth Long of Port Elizabeth, SA, grandchildren Courtney Tucker (Dan), Micah Williams (Stephanie), Jared Gush, Joel Gush, Daniel Gush and great-grandchildren Dorian Williams, Emmy Tucker and Asher Williams. As a teenager he felt called to be a missionary and immigrated to the United States in 1953. He dedicated his life to the service of his Lord Jesus Christ as a Minister of the Gospel, in serving mentally and physically disabled persons, and visiting the sick and homebound during his retirement. He earned multiple degrees including a Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was a church planter/pastor/interim pastor to churches in Tennessee, Ohio, and multiple in the Dothan, AL area. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan's Purse or World Vision. A service celebrating his remarkable life will be held at a later date.
