His journey began in Nelson County, Virginia on April 29, 1938, and passed on to the Lord in Dadeville, Alabama, on December 8, 2021, at the age of 82. Growing up, he loved to come home from school and grab an apple from the orchard or take the saltshaker to the garden and polish off a few tomatoes. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Freida in 2018. He is survived by his Son William, his daughter in law, Mary Jane, his sisters Emily Giles and Mildred Shaffer and his Brothers Warren and Page Phillips. Dad was a traveler, from his days in the Navy, through driving a bus for Trailways and Greyhound, to personal cruising, on multiple cruise lines, to interesting locations. He loved to play golf and watch baseball, primarily the Chicago Cubs. Many a Sunday was spent watching either NASCAR racing or the NFL. He once had a greyhound named after him, at the local dog track. He enjoyed his food spicy, the hotter the better. Followed by some butter pecan ice cream. He never met a stranger and loved to put a smile on your face, with his quick wit. He will be missed, but we can celebrate his wonderful life, as a loving husband and father, knowing he has joined his wife Freida in heaven.
