Mr. Larry Joe Steeley, Sr. of Birmingham, Alabama went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, January 12, 2022.
Joe and his wife Dean spent 59 loving years together growing their family and several businesses. In 1971 they founded Do It Yourself Pest Control, Inc. and later grew it into what is now Rainbow Technology Corporation, which still operates as a family run business. One of Joe’s mottos was “find a need and fill it.” Whether the need was a product for the telecommunications industry or the financial burdens of someone in his community, Joe was there to give generously of his ingenuity and share his prosperity with others.
It was Joe’s quick-wit and outstanding sense of humor that made him special. He had a way of bringing a smile to your face with a comical one-liner or cleverly thought through joke. It is the warmth of his laughter that his family and friends will miss the most.
Joe and Dean met at a Dale Carnegie meeting where Joe was a Senior Instructor. They were members of The Club, The Downtown Club and Inverness Country Club. They loved the city of Birmingham and shared in its entrepreneurial growth. Joe was passionate about spending time with his family and friends and built Triple S Farm, a hangout spot on the Coosa River in Wilsonville, AL. He wanted the property to serve the community as well, allowing churches and outreach groups to gather and host events there.
Joe is survived by his wife, Sarah Dean Privett Steeley, four children, twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Joe’s children include Larry Wayne (Trisha) Steeley, Debbie Jo (Rick) Steeley McDurmin, Larry Joe (Renee) Steeley, Jr. and Mark Steven (Lisa) Steeley. Joe’s grandchildren include Rick, Angie, Chris, Tiffany, Justin, Jacob, Whitney, Hunter, Cathrine, Landon, Alec and Ryan. Great-grandchildren include Whitney, Jessica, Tristan, Tinsley, Jackson, Greyson, Rylee, Solomon, Jovie and Leni.
Joe is also survived by his brothers Jim (Sarah) Steeley, Jeff Steeley, sisters Judy (Ed) Lawrence, Jerri (Michael) Waterhouse. He is preceded in death by his parents Jack Steeley and Agnes Ingram Steeley, sister Jackie (Marlon) Thomas, and brother John (Tina) Steeley.
