On Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012, Larry Lee Guthrie, Jr, our dearly beloved father, husband, son, brother, uncle and friend at the age of 40 suffered a massive heart attack. Lee was born June 8, 1971, in Atlanta, Georgia, to his parents Larry and Becky McBrayer Guthrie. The family moved to Tennessee shortly thereafter where he resided until finishing middle school in Knox County. It was at this time he became an avid Tennessee football fan. The family moved to Decatur, Alabama where Lee attended Decatur High School and was #51 on the Red Raider Football team, playing linebacker. Upon graduation from high school, Lee attended and graduated from Birmingham Southern College, attaining a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in History. He was a brother of the Sigma Epsilon Alpha Fraternity. Lee went on to Cumberland School of Law at Samford University and graduated in 1997 with a Juris Doctorate degree. Having accomplished this, he furthered his education with a degree of Master's of Law in Taxation from the University of Denver in Colorado. His career provided many opportunities to grow through his experience with law and accounting firms in both Alabama and Tennessee. Lee was currently employed with the Social Security Administration, in Birmingham, in the ODAR office as a writer, with the dream of becoming a judge. Lee is survived by his loving and adored wife of Fourteen years, Brandi Gorman Guthrie, his Five year old son Larry Lee Guthrie, III, who affectionately called his father, Ba; his parents Larry and Becky McBrayer Guthrie, Decatur, Alabama, brother Dr. Greg Guthrie, (Dr. Bridgette Guthrie) Chicago, Illinois, sister, Gayle R. Guthrie, Washington, D.C. and Grandmother, Fannie Ruth McBrayer, Falkville, Alabama. He will be terribly missed by all his nieces, nephews and extended family members. He is a member of Riverchase United Methodist Church. Lee and Brandi taught 1st grade Sunday School. He also coached the Silver Sharks Soccer Team with the Hoover Soccer Club. Arrangements are in the care of Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hoover, Alabama. Visitation will be Thursday, April 12 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Riverchase United Methodist Church. The funeral service will be Friday, April 13th at 10:00 a.m. at Currie Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Memorial Gardens.
