82 of DeLand, FL passed away on Sunday, 10/16/05, after a brief illness. Kensie "Doc", an Army veteran, was born in Una, AR, now known as Chimes. His father died when he was a toddler. Kensie and his two sisters lived on the farm of his grandfather, John William Housley, until his mother married his step-father, Tom Durham. As an adolescent and young man, he worked on his mother and stepfather's farm where he developed a great love of horses. Kensie joined the Army Air Corp during WWII. After the war, he briefly tried running his widowed mother's farm before joining the Army. He served at a collector station for a M.A.S.H. unit during the Korean conflict. His other duty stations included Fort Hood, TX: Fort Chaffee, AR: Homestead, FL; Las Vegas, NM; Fort Dix, NJ; Fort Monmouth, MA; Biloxi, MS and Erlangen, Germany, where he served during the Berlin Crisis. Kensie retired at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL after 23 years of military service in 1966. He then attended a two year Food Service Program at Drake Technical School in Huntsville. He worked as a chef for a number of years at the University Sheraton Hotel in Huntsville. In 1974, he began working for Civil Service. Kensie served as a Policeman for the Defense Department for eight years until he retired in 1985. In 1988, he moved to Birmingham to be closer to family. After the death of his wife in 2001 he lived in Waco, Texas and moved to Florida in 2004. He is preceded in death by his parents John Oliver Pack and Pearl Agnes Housley Pack Durham and by his wife of 56 years Alean Chandler Pack. He will be fondly remembered for his outstanding devotion to family and country and sorely missed. Mr. Pack is survived by two sons, Jim Pack of Birmingham and Glenn Pack (Pat Saiz) of Orange City, FL; two grandchildren Molly and Arthur Pack; a sister, Olivia Cochran of Springdale, AR; and a brother, Bob Durham of Reno, NV. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 21, 2005, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150, Hoover. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2005, in the funeral home chapel, with Jim Profetto officiating. He will be buried with full military honors in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home directing.
