Kenneth Edwin Payne, 84 years old, departed this life on June 29, 2021. He was born in Hale County, Alabama, graduated from Akron High School, and, after a stint in the United States Army, settled with his wife, Jeanette, in Akron, Alabama, where they raised their children. They later moved to the outskirts of Greensboro, Alabama, where they lived for 30 years.
Kenneth worked for many years in the wholesale paper business in Tuscaloosa. He learned carpentry from his father, and spent many evenings and weekends doing household projects for friends and family, often working alongside his twin brother, Karl. That love of woodwork carried into his later years, when he took up the hobby of building bird houses and bird feeders, along with other novelty items. He loved reading, especially novels about the American West. He took great pride in keeping a manicured lawn, loved Alabama football, and he never met a stranger.
He is survived by his son, Kenneth Burdette Payne, daughter Bonita Payne Wadsworth and her husband, Gregg; son Bradley Robert Payne and his wife, Aimee; grandson James Grant Wadsworth, granddaughter Mary Paige Wadsworth, sisters Bernice Morrison of Tuscaloosa and Barbara Gilley of Saraland, brother Fred Payne of North Carolina, and dozens of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by the love of his life, and wife of 62 years, Jeanette Burford Payne, his parents Dolsen and Siddie Payne, brothers Dennis Payne, Ira Payne, Alfred Payne, Oscar Payne, Woodrow Payne, Karl Payne, and sisters Willie Montgomery and Ruby Tilley.
