Kelly Lynn McCulley Murphy, age 50, died peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Friday, September 13, 2019. Kelly was born July 8, 1969 in Birmingham, Alabama. During her adolescent and teen years, she was active in the Dawson Memorial Baptist Church youth group, whose members and leaders became life-long friends, confidants and inspirational figures. Kelly graduated from Homewood High School in 1987 and then graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she was a member of the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority. After a successful career at Macy’s, Kelly became a full-time wife and parent, serving as a dedicated volunteer at her son’s school. She was an active member of Hunter Street Baptist Church and enjoyed scrapbooking, entertaining and traveling with family and friends, especially to her favorite destination, Disney World.
She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd “Pete” McCulley, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 19 years, William Brady (Brad) Murphy III and their son, Grayson William Murphy; mother, Susan Cherry Lee; brother, Kirk McCulley (Cinnamon); mother-in-law, Linda Brooks; sisters-in-law, Daphne Curren (Jim) and Deidra Brooks; and brother-in-law, Gary Brooks (Karla); nephews and nieces, Walker and Whitten McCulley, Jacob and Bailey Curren, and Emma and Garrett Brooks, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Her family wishes to thank the ICU nurses at St. Vincent’s Hospital, whose loving care and kindness made the end gentler for us all. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. Monday, September 16, 2019 at Hunter Street Baptist Church, followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Buddy Gray officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorials Gardens, South. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Norma Livingston Ovarian Cancer Foundation.
