Kathryn (aka, Kathy, Grandma, Gma, Grema, and Kathryn Ann when she was bad), Age 92 was called to Glory this past Sunday after complications due to a fall. Kathryn started life in Gary Indiana at the ripe age of zero. Her father, who worked in the steel industry, transferred to Birmingham in 1938. She ended up marrying another guy who was also in the steel industry, albeit making pipe. His name was Barnett Emerald Roberts, who preceded her in death. Also preceded in death by her parents, Harold K. Kleine and Edna S. Adams, and her sister, Dorothy Michael.
Her early career started as a soda jerk at the drug store in downtown Birmingham and ended up working in school administration at Berry High School. After retirement, she plowed her efforts into arts and crafts with her husband Bob and toured all over Alabama's fine craft shows. In her spare time, she volunteered as a "Pink Lady" giving over a thousand hours at Saint Vincent's hospital where her admin skills were put to great use. An avid collector of "all things swan", she also partook of sewing many a quilt.
Kathy, as she was known by her friends and family, was always referred to as sweet, funny, and a bit sassy. (maybe it runs in the family-editor) Loved by everyone, she could liven up a room with endless old sayings and could be heard cackling down the hall. She loved to wake you up with light pinches while saying things like "ants, roaches, bugs..."
Survived by a whole host of people including her sister Coralie Jo Hunter. She had four kids: Diann (Larry) Felix, Charles (Barbara)Roberts, Jan (Fred) Brugge, and Don (Marlies) Roberts, and more grandkids than you could shake a stick at - totaling 9: Rust, Michael, David, Allison, Matt, Daniel, Stephen, Alexandra, and Jessica. She even had a passel of great-grandkids - Eve, Joan, Xander, Ruby, Dessa, Camden, Cade, and two on the way and to be named at a later date.
A lifelong Church member, she was most recently a member of Saint John's Lutheran Church in Lexington, Kentucky, where funeral services will be held Friday, July 30, 2021, at 6:30 pm. Visitation will precede starting at 5:00 pm.
Interment will be in Hoover, Alabama at Jefferson Memorial Gardens South on Tuesday, August 3, at 11:00 am with visitation preceding at 10:00 am at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home.
