Kathy was the mom who made special foods and treats for the children’s teams and could always be counted on to help with any school or sports activity. Kathy enjoyed reading and going to the beach. She also enjoyed music and attending concerts. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bennie and Almeta Gunter, Floyd Jones; and her grandparents-in-law, Eva and DeLoyde Litton and Naomi and Kenneth Manering.

Kathy is survived by her husband of 18 years, Chad; her two children, Claire and Carter; her parents, Mike Gunter (Sheri) of Herrin, Illinois and Lana Williams (Glenn) of Warner Robins, Georgia; brother, Michael Gunter of Herrin, Illinois; and her grandmother, Norma Pierce. She also leaves her in-laws, Donna Litton and Gregory Manering of Carbondale, Illinois, and brother-in-law, Tyson Manering of Murray, Kentucky. Kathy enjoyed her nephews (Payton and Eric); her numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; friend, Basel Kandar; close colleagues and friends from softball, her hometown of Herrin, Illinois, and Hoover and the surrounding area. The family wishes to thank the many friends and relatives who provided support and encouragement during Kathy’s illness. The family also wishes to thank the special people at Alacare (hospice). Thank you to Hoover City Schools and Green Valley School parents and personnel for the many years of positive experiences that Kathy enjoyed in her teaching career.
